This article highlights how experts worry that the current COVID-19 pandemic will exacerbate racial disparities and specifically, maternal mortality –  or the death of a woman up to a year following the end of a pregnancy. Recent data have shown that COVID-19 mortality rates are substantially higher among blacks and Latinos than among whites or Asians.
